The basics of this book are that it’s no ordinary society. Through this whole book the whole sense of reality is skewed a bit into a little bit of imagination. This book takes place in a made up town in the States. The book starts off with meeting at a very rich person’s house to discuss something really important. This importance is because there are 2 guilds and they want to merge together and be one very strong one. By the end of this meeting everyone decides that it’s a good idea to merge since their powers will be very strong and they will be able to defend themselves from whatever might get in their way. After the two guilds merge there seems to be a lot of conflict going on. About one to two days after the merging of the guilds there seems to be a lot of unexplained events. The main character gets in the car with her secret crush Hunter. He offered her a ride home but soon that ride home turned into a ride she will never forget. It was a snowy day and Hunter had a beat up civic, after making a couple of turns Hunter finds himself in a very serious situation. He is on a downhill and it’s really snowy, he goes to push his breaks but they don’t work. He manages to stop the car safely and park it on the side, until he picks it up the next day. The snow stars coming down fast and days fly by. Christmas starts coming up fast and Morgan goes shopping for presents for her friends. She goes out shopping with Hunter. Hunter suggests that they go to this antique show and check out some of the items they have for sale, just in case they might be interesting. Since hunter has a crush on Morgan he decides to be sweet and buys her some sort of robe that helps you work with magic. Hunter tells her about some sort or Taht Matah which is basically when two people get together site beside each other and transfer their knowledge from one to another. Apparently this is a really complex procedure and takes a lot of skill and concentration, if done wrong then both people can end up blind and paralyzed series of incidents starts to occur while Morgan is with Hunter. While on her way to the meet her guild. She heard Cal send her a witch call. She was terrified because Cal tried to lock her up and burn her to death when they were dating. She looked around and she saw him, standing there, they talked about how he left Selene's guild just so that he could be with her. When Morgan arrived at the weekly guild meet she wanted to talk to hunter so she called him onto the veranda. They started to talk and suddenly they both fell over the railing. The whole guild rushed down to see if both of them were okay. Morgan didn’t have any major injuries because when they fell, she fell on hunter. Hunter had some minor injuries he will get away with a couple of bruises and a cut. After the whole guild went downstairs to look around for clues while Morgan sat down to drink herbal tea. Hunter came back and had some fury in his voice and said "the railing was cut" meaning someone did that on purpose. The guild went to the main room where they would do their chants and Hunter and Morgan went into the washroom to clean up. After which she told hunter that she had, had a talk with Cal while on her way here. Hunter told her to stay away from Cal and Selene. Morgan kept hearing which messages come from Cal and Selene which wouldn’t stop bugging her. Selene kept bugging Morgan to join her guild but Morgan always refused. Selene invited Morgan over to her house and Morgan didn’t show. Selene went to the next level and put a spell on Mary K. Hunter and Morgan return home in search of Mary K and cannot find her. Morgan runs outside to go talk to Hunter and sees her neighbour. She asks if she has seen Mary K. and her neighbour told Morgan that she got into a nice green Jaguar. Morgan knew only one person with a green Jaguar and that was Selene. Morgan then immediately went into a panic and told Hunter. Hunter then notified the guild leaders and Morgan and Hunter rushed off to Selene's house. They searched around the house for disturbed areas in search of dark magic. They searched everywhere then they found that there were traces of dark magic coming from the basement. Hunter followed Morgan into the basement, they knew they were really close but they couldn’t find the imprint in the wall to open the secret door to her dark lair. Hunter found the special imprint and he opened the door to her lair. There Morgan found Mary K. in the corner not knowing what’s going on. Morgan heard Selene's voice come from the dark and Selene appeared. She kept putting spells on Morgan, but she resisted them and tried not to fear Selene's dark magic. Selene put a spell on Morgan and she fell to her knees. Hunter then immediately distracted Selene and started casting spells at her. While Morgan was recovering Hunter took a bad hit and fell and was knocked out cold. Morgan then casted her strongest spell and she killed Selene and then Cal disappeared into thin air. Morgan carried hunter out the door while one of the guild leaders carried out Mary K.
Personal Review
Personally I think this book is a little weird and confusing. The book takes place in today’s modern society with a spin; a lot of things revolve around magic and magic guilds. There are some major and some minor issues in my book. Some of the minor issues such as someone using magic to sever the brake lines near the master cylinder in order to kill or injure Hunter and Morgan(the main character).Then another minute issue is that someone cut the railings at the place where the guild meeting was taking place and Hunter and Morgan both were injured. There are some other small issues such as using dark magic in order to communicate and watch over people. One of the major issues in my book would be using a friend to get closer to someone, then them trying to kill you just because you didn't want to join your friend’s guild. Another major issue that happens in the book was that Selene (the evil one) kidnapped Morgan’s sister, in order to lure Morgan into coming to Selene's house. She wanted to lure Morgan into coming to her house so that she could talk to Morgan and if there were any objectives to the conversation Selene would harm her sister (Mary K), just so that she would have it her way and so that Selene guild would have all the necessary pendants, amulets, and guild members to be the most powerful guild. I personally didn’t like this book it was a very boring read. The characters in the book seemed a bit unrealistic due to the fact that they are portrayed as modern day teens but do not act like them. Most of the characters act like little boys and girls. They have their little get together hold each others hands and mumble some gibberish and pray for no reason whatsoever. Therefore reading this book was very annoying and boring, it was probably meant to be read by girl that is interested in relationship books and romance and stuff like that.
